Review of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) by Jerry C — 11 Feb 2010

Why does this movie even exist? It just seems so wrong and unnecessary. Was this made by the same David Lynch who made the show? The direction is all over the place, and not even as good as on the show.

Where are all my favorite characters. Dale Cooper just seems jammed in there without reason, whereas most of the other actors could easily have fit into this story and they are not there. Speaking of which, what was Laura Flynn Boyle doing when they shot this movie and who is this little kid looking actress they got to replace her? I get that it's Laura Palmer's story, but I don't know if this story was worth telling.

It even kind of undermines the show. Laura wasn't exactly portrayed as squeaky clean in the show, but her character in this is so unlikable that it makes me wonder why anyone was upset by her death.

There is also just an overall feeling of dirtiness throughout, and while the show had some hardcore stuff in it, it always felt more pleasant. This just made me feel bad, without adding anything to the story we didn't already know.

The show is brilliant. The movie is crap.
