Review of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) by Giffy G — 11 Feb 2010
Not at all the Twin Peaks movie many would have hoped for. The general tone created is vastly different from the series, and while I don't doubt Lynch would have added these to the TV show if he could have, it's exacerbated by the inclusion of profanity, nudity and such like.
Plus many characters don't appear at all, some barely get a look in, and Donna's replacement just distracts. But maybe the real issue is that seeing Laura Palma actually going through the things she did before she died is just not as interesting as one would have hoped, probably because we all know what she did by now anyway.
One can't help thinking that it might be better enjoyed by those who have no experience of the show, but then again, its not intended to be and may make (even) less sense to them. It's not all a big dissapointment though, the opening sequence (with an agent that's not Dale Cooper) is excellent, and there are some classic Lynch moments, particularly the murder itself.
Ultimately though it remains a curio, rather than the definative final chapter of one of the best TV shows ever.
