5.5/5.

This can be called a much darker version not only of the series, but say of a wider-audience-oriented Mulholland Drive. There, you have a good person seeing itself as terrified poat-mortem of having potentially been close to going astray with no real bad bone in them or around them, and here you also get essentially good peeps faced with horror in their personal or working lives and getting and feeling totally corrupted alive almost without a choice to die, with all the accompanying psycho effects in full range from hints to most direct and horrifying manifestations. Makes one wonder wht will be of s3 -with the originals containing only slightly disturbing hints to the potential depths, and the movie containing some of them in full effect, progression wise it may be that the upcoming season will actually take it yet to another level; first full-fledged slasher psycho series on tv this time round? Or wil it be taken towards the side of DL's beloved meditation, and as an inversion there will be easier salvation for everybody involved?

Movie itself is as innovative and brilliant as they get, as anybody with knowledge of cinema would testify. The way the dissonance is created, hinting at disturbances at a sub-conscious level- and creating ones for the viewers - feels unparalleled, and the exacting emotional tones where it is applicable (laura's story) are so true and wholesome. And the horror thus is really horrifying, and the ending is really an Ending with a capital E. This not mentioning the base aspects, incl. music, acting, colors used..

Additional 0.5 for how they interwove everything together (after all, even the aforementioned MD was initially conceived as a spin-off fr Audrey's character coming to Hollywood) and use the strengths of it all and deepen it - cue say Cooper's tapes book, the subtle effects of the things he sees throughout his life violence-wise and how the first part thus may be different layers of his sub-consciousness mixed with reality. Having 2 seasons of a tv show forming a base for it, this was the playground of choice for a director and a whole crew, and boy did they play with that on a most serious level. Although you can see how some people either just do not like it or do not get it due to not being immersed in TP deep enough, if one likes it and knows stuff about the series, you cannot help but appreciate it highly.
