Review of Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983) by Mike M — 28 May 2013
Hoo-boy. The Twilight Zone is bad - REALLY bad. An anthology of four tales - with only the last worthy of being called a true Twilight Zone. Not coincidentally - it's a remake of an actual TZ. In fact, if not for the George Miller-directed fourth story - featuring John Lithgow's spirited reprisal of the William Shatner crazed passenger role in Nightmare at 20,000 Feet - this flick would only rate one star, and then, only due to the fun performances of Scatman Crothers and Dan Aykroyd (who obviously enjoyed their roles).
Spielberg's segment is especially horrid, with child acting on par with community theatre. Landis and Dante's turns at bat fare little better, with age proving no tonic for this dreadful and uninspired mess.
Surely, Rod Serling watched this from afar - and vomited as a result. And he thought Night Gallery was bad?
