Review of Turtles Can Fly (2004) by Saeed R — 04 Jan 2013
Very interesting and incredibly sad. The Ebert review hit the nail on the head. This is a movie entirely about kids living in the Kurdish region, along the border of Iraq and Turkey, set just prior to the American invasion of Iraq.
Like Ebert points out, the movie isn't pro or anti US, or any other country (well, kind of anti-saddam.) Really, it's a sad movie about the lives of kids who have to live in a world that adults control.
They have to get by in a horrific state that they have not placed themselves into. Ah well. Worth seeing. But hard to watch. I appreciate the tip, Ebru. :-).
