Review of Tsotsi (2005) by Jack F — 15 Dec 2007
An honest and tough portrayal of a low-rent hood who re-discovers his ability to feel compassion. As beautiful as the story is, Tsotsi realizes that its protagonist has serious devolopmental and intelligence issues so his time with the newborn is never milked for unearned pathos.
This movie convincingly creates Tsotsi's world - so totally unlike our own - and makes you believe that even in the debasement of a life of crime there is hope for redemption. Great movie.
