Review of Truth (2015) by Bryan G — 15 May 2016
Here's the real truth: I'm a sucker for plucky investigative reporters and am naturally inclined to enjoy anything that puts them in a good light so getting me to like a movie like 'Truth' is like shooting fish in a barrel.
That being said I'm not sure if its a "great" movie. Some of the plot threads and themes have been done much more powerfully in other recent films (Spotlight) and TV shows (The Newsroom) and the screenplay used here is often too much on the nose. Perhaps some of the weakness has to do with the relative weakness of the case they were investigating, but the acting is strong and the story moves along at a nice clip. So although it may not be revolutionary, this is decently crafted recent history that fans of journalism will certainly find entertaining to say the least.
