James Cameron's "True Lies" works sensationally because Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis have crackling chemistry. This is a film that combines the best of both Arnold and Cameron's sensibilities.
While the script is extremely uneven, its the big, thrilling action scenes and the pure fun Arnold and Curtis are having that elevate "True Lies" to the 90s action classic that it is. Everything worked so well in this film that it was copied dozens of times over years rendering the plot predictable.
Ignore the copycats and enjoy Cameron's least serious film.
