Review of True Lies (1994) by Anssi V — 10 Oct 2011

There are movies that are so over the top that it's aggravating. Fortunately the other side of the coin exists in movies like this one. It's hilariously lopsided, full of subtly and not so subtly parodied action film clichés, large hammy performances and of course it has the man himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

So really, if you're a fan of the man or action films in general, what is there not to like. Well, I'm glad you asked. First of all, while it is funny to see Arnold despairing with his family while still trying to catch the terrorists, the story arc dealing with his wife is a bit longish and suffers from fatigue.

The story itself isn't that memorable either and it's the humour and the action scenes that make this movie work. So is it the perfect action film? Hell no, but it's a good example of a humorous one done correctly.
