Review of True Grit (2010) by Monkey P — 08 Oct 2013
While the film does present a bit of a quick, to-the-point pace with action sequences merely lagging and a climax not as satisfying as one might hope, but True Grit, never-the-less, still manages to engross with it's production design; realistically depicting the rough, gritty and intense world of "The Old West" and staying faithful to it's original source.
While also highlighting an authentic script adaptation by The Coen Brothers and showcasing a very well-cast ensemble. Particularly newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, who's breakout performance as Mattie Ross singularly drives the film and displays a strong, sophisticated young talent more than holding her own with such esteemed company as Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon.
4/5 stars.
