Review of True Grit (2010) by Jw V — 09 Jan 2014
One thing we can expect from a Coen brothers' movie is strong character building and performance. And True Grit does not disappoint at all. The characters are generally strong and feel unique. However, Mattie stands out on a shining pedestral. Her performance is strong and her character - although difficult to bring - very convincing. Notable too is the performance of Jeff Bridges, who succeeds in setting down true grit.
A great movie, nice landscapes, nice historical research, but the story is surprisingly simple (nothing like Lebowski here) and predictable, and would not convince without good actor performances.
If you liked the movie, you should read the western novel 'True Grit' by Charles Portis.
