Review of True Grit (2010) by Ben D — 01 Feb 2014
Jeff Bridges redefines True Grit.
I was lucky enough to catch this at a DVD awards screening so the quality of picture wasn't always the best but I was too excited to wait for UK cinema release date. The Coen brothers always create a fantastic realistic and intriguing atmosphere in there movies and they achieve this here. I'm not comparing Bridges performance to John Waynes at all but he does portray a whiskey drinking arrogant bounty hunter very well and blends personalities very well with Matt Damons Texas dedicated ranger and the young brilliant quick talking, and thinking young lady who has just had her farther killed and wants her own justice served.
It's a bit dialogue heavy in parts but the swinging affections and need of assistance from the young girl towards Texas ranger and drunken bounty hunter keeps you intrigued. This isn't the best movie the Coen brothers have put together as it offers little extra from the original True Grit which of course it will be compared to. However solid performances, and beautifully shot, with the nice little story and great cast/ character interaction makes this remake worth a watch.
