Review of True Grit (2010) by Tvjerry — 08 Jan 2011
The Coen Brothers have put their unmistakable spin on this Charles Portis novel (a better reference than the John Wayne movie). A plucky young woman (Hailee Steinfeld) hires a crusty, drunken Marshall (Jeff Bridges) to bring her father's murderer to justice.
This film spends more time on character (always humorous & interesting) and dialogue (entertainingly stilted) than on action. It sets up the period and plot nicely, drags a bit in the middle, but ends with a hit of action.
It's not their best film, but still enjoyable to watch these two masters work their cinematic skills.
