Review of Trucker (2008) by Andrew S — 07 Jan 2010
One of the best indie flicks of the year. In a time where every other film claims to be "independent" this is one of the few examples of independent cinema this year. Michelle Monaghan shows her acting chops and man can she deliver a captivating performance.
I hope she gets more roles after this. Heck I hope she gets nominated she gives us an outstanding oscar worthy performance. But I'm pretty sure she'll be relatively ignore along with this film.
Nathan Fillion was great both him and Benjamin Bratt always picks great films to showcase their talent. I really admired the relationship between Monaghan and Fillon up into the point where it got some-what romantic.
What I really liked about the relationship was that two people can have this honest relationship with out having sex get in the way but nope. Ah oh well. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the plot but with the complexity of the characters.
The film falls towards the end the ending its self is somewhat abrupt and I really was not a fan of the semi-rape scene. It slightly alter my opinion of the film. I don't understand why emotionally damaged female character's can't be portrayed with out involving some sort of rape and sexual abuse history.
Is that so much to ask for? But other than that I thought the film was well crafted with great cinematography.
