Review of Troy (2004) by Brian S — 15 Mar 2012
A generally decent but by no means outstanding movie. the grandeur was quite impressive....great sets, great costumes....it had all the right looks for a solid epic. what got me was the acting and the overall writing.
I did not care for the casting choices in this movie....Peter O'Toole was pretty good, and Diane Kruger made for an alluring enough Helen, but most everybody else seemed very out of place. the writing (both in story adaptation and dialogue) wasn't quite up to par with the rest of the movie's epicness wither, so the combination of bad casting and poor writing left a lot to be desired.
other than that, however, this is still pretty entertaining. the battles are cool, the source material is classic, and as I already stated, it has a lot going on visually.
