Review of Troy (2004) by Peter N — 11 Aug 2012
Troy tries to be epic with its amazing spectacle of battle sequences and heavy reliance on CGI and visual effects, but it fails to escape the shadow of films like Lord of the Rings and Gladiator. It has some pretty entertaining moments, though, and I have always been impressed with the strong beginning.
It's intriguing to place two well-developed, somewhat likeable characters on each side of the battle (Brad Pitt and Eric Bana). This gives the audience a reason to cheer for either army, and gives strong reasoning for the motives that drive the classic tale.
It's fun to see an ensemble of powerhouse actors contributing their talents, but the whole thing falls a little short due to a weak script and slow pace.
