Review of Trouble the Water (2008) by Bill V — 22 Oct 2009
The documentary is about Katrina and how a certain group of people survived and what the storm did to their lives. The footage is great. The story is captivating.
The director seemed careful to let the main focus stay the main focus and not engage in a lot of politicizing. Kimberly Roberts' faith is front and center as gritty as it is but there is no big deal made of it.
There is some politicizing of what happened but it isn't completely unfair. The federal government failed the people of New Orleans but the state and city governments were also culpable. But this is not the point of why Roberts did in the film.
She wanted to showcase her talent but also to say sometimes we go through horrible times to be formed and re-formed.
See it.
