Review of Tron (1982) by Simon-Félix L — 03 Jan 2011
A scientist is sucked into the VR world of a hostile computer mainframe hellbent on world domination: classic sci-fi premise. If Tron had been released 13 years after the fact, once cybernetic terminology had gained household use, it would have been heralded as one of the greatest movies of its time.
But it was so far in advance, it went unnoticed. The hermeticity of the screenplay doesn't help; even I was lost during the firt 15 minutes, and the fact that some transition scenes in VR world are missing (from apparent lack of budget) is more than a little disorienting.
But still, the movie vulgarises the computer world in such a great way and delivers such a compelling "quest" story and stunning visuals, that you cannot help but like "Tron".
