The visuals alternate between dated and silly and cutting edge and imaginative. The dialog and live action is quite hokey. The fact that the people, sorry, "programs" in the virtual world all have gray skin compared to the neon glow of the environment and their outfits bothered me.

The wizard of oz inspired way "users" have parallel "programs" with their likeness in the video game world was neat. And I was surprised by the depth of the dystopian environment and philosophical underpinnings of something like Plato's Allegory of the Cave.

Seeing Flynn (Bridges) fight to get credit for the creation of the video games he designed from the corporate villain Dillinger was exciting, but it was the journey getting there in a very unique world that kept my interest.
