Review of Tron (1982) by Emmanuel S — 15 Apr 2011
The visuals haven't aged well...like at all. But the imagery does have a certain retro-chic appeal the same way old-school videogames do. Plus the plot, script, acting and even the concepts/themes remain engaging in a nostalgic way.
Before the digital world was dreamed up as a place for Keanu Reeves to show that he knows Kung-Fu, and even years before audiences were treated to Terminators taking over the world: There was Tron. More important for its place in film history than for any "deep artistic message" (which is practically nonexistent); Tron is a fun and whimsical nostalgia piece: a retro adventure that should give film fans the same feeling that gamers feel when they revisit old classic videogames.
Oh and it has a pre-Dude Jeff Bridges in it :).
