Review of Tron (1982) by Mark V — 01 May 2011
No doubt a masterpiece when it was released! I had to watch this film while keeping in mind how old it is. Flynn, a computer hacker becomes digitised and brought into a computer world where he meets Tron and other programs and attempts to bring down the Master Control Program that has evolved and taking over.
Tron takes the fun of games from the time, like Space Invaders and puts the audience in the thick of it. The graphics are dated by our standards, but would have been an epic undertaking for 1982. In blu-ray format everything looks sharp and crisp including the blemishes of the rotoscoping around characters in the computer world. The only let down I think is the somewhat corny soundtrack accompanying the movie - something definitely appreciated in the 2010 follow-up.
Enjoyable in any case!
