Review of Tron (1982) by Aaron A — 19 Jul 2011
Its cult status notwithstanding, "TRON" doesn't exactly epitomize the pinnacle of intelligent science-fiction. A potentially fascinating morality tale about the power of human thought and the folly of machines is bogged down by the confusing physical manifestation of abstract computer concepts in the virtual world, and devotes next to no quality time for its characters.
It's a film better remembered for its iconic visual identity than its story. The revolutionary computer animation was ironically ignored by the Academy's visual effect branch because using computers was considered cheating!
