Review of Tron (1982) by Matthew H — 11 Apr 2014
I watched Tron: Legacy in 3D last year and loved it so much so I was extremely eager to watch this right after. This was probably a sci-fi revolution seeing as it was made in the 80's. It's concept is thought provoking and has hints of religious or philosophical references/meanings. And, I might be the only one who says this but this does seem like a sci-fi version of The Wizard of Oz. That in itself is brilliant. The cinematography for Tron is great with its stunning vintage visual effects no matter what century you're living in. Fun fact: its visual effects were also the first of its kind and John Lasseter, head of Pixar's animation group, has said how he saw potential in GCI for producing animated films after watching this stating, "without Tron there would be no Toy Story," so thank him for that. The score for this was great too though I, personally, prefer Daft Punk's.
I gotta admit that the dialogue in this isn't easy to understand and you can easily get lost with all its computer lingo. In all honesty, I had to watch this twice to get it. That could probably be why its deemed as a cult film. Also, it might not be the easiest of cinematic experience because of its pacing but I gotta say it has some sort of charm to it. If you're a sci-fi fan you definitely have to watch this; if you aren't watch it anyway.
