Review of Tron (1982) by Train M — 06 Apr 2011
One of the most visually stunning movies of the '80s. In its own way the visuals still hold up (particularly the costumes & look of the characters). The sets aren't always great but since the whole movie is stylized, they work in the sense of the story.
The stark black & white combined with the neon gives it almost a Metropolis feel that is intentionally cold. The story however is pretty ho-hum. It is a bit confusing and anticlimatic (much like the new Tron).
It starts to get deeper and is infused with unique ideas for the time (users are gods etc.) but it never develops into anything.
