Review of Troma's War (1988) by Michael W — 08 May 2008
Lloyd Kaufman places a cast of characters as unlikely to be heroes as you will ever find and creates B-movie gold. When a group of typical Tromaville citizens band together after a deadly plane crash left them helpless, they can do anything. Shortly after beginning to explore their new island, they run into a camp of terrorists of all kind. They encounter a pig headed leader, a man who's main purpose is to dispense AIDS as a weapon (yes, you read that right), and every other sort of misfitted kind of terrorist you can think of. Their main plan is to dispense harmful drugs and poisons into different systems in America in an attempt to kill and corrupt. What's in their way? A vietnam vet turned used cars salesman, an old housewife, bimbo-tastic blondes, punk rockers, a James Bond-esque gentlemen, an obese tub of lard, a blind girl, and more.
There's tons of action in this somewhat surprisingly viable and legit political piece. It pokes a lot of fun at the government but stays strong in it's b-movie and Troma ways. It's violent, raunchy, dirty, sleazy, IT'S TROMA!
