Review of Trolls (2016) by Greg B — 18 Nov 2016
"Trolls" is the latest Dream Works animated film. It stars a young troll named Poppy who is first in line to inherit her father's troll kingdom. A neighboring village called Bergentown is full of denizens who believe the only way they can attain true happiness is to eat the trolls.
After her friends are captured, Poppy sets off to rescue them. I enjoyed the message in the film as well as the musical numbers, but I thought this film played things conventionally safe. The plot is linear and doesn't really take the risks it needs to for this to be a great film.
It's an enjoyable coming of age story where the characters try to discover what true happiness is, but it does so in a remarkably conventional way --------------------------------------------------------------- B.
