Review of Triumph of the Will (1935) by Robert B — 23 Sep 2009
What film would you get if you had an unlimited resources of an entire country? Leni Reifenstahl found out. This film is unbelievable in it's imagery and has been copied for it's sheer emotional proaganda virtues from American political commericials and events ( some say Bush's landing on the carrier was inspired by this film of Hitler landing in a plane in Nurmeburg, personally I think it was more inspired by ID4) to Hollywood flicks like some scenes in Star Wars.
The film is mesmerizing as it captures pure evil gripping a nation. Years have gone by and it may be hard for people to completely understand what this film captures but everyone should see what can happen to a nation blinded by sheer cult of personality and hatred turned into a cause.
The 2005 DVD is great as it also comes with a commentary track that helps explains some of the dynamics of the Nazis and Germany.
