Review of Triple 9 (2016) by Luke B — 11 Mar 2016
I really wanted this movie to be good. It has a stellar cast, including Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul and Woody Harrelson with Kate Winslet supporting. It was incredibly disappointing.
Did I expect it to be incredible? No, but it really wasn't even that good. The story was very bland and predictable. There was nothing new about the story, it's been done time and time again. The film didn't have any twists or unexpected turns, it told you everything that was going to happen.
It was actually quite boring. The performances were nothing spectacular, however the cast does get you through the movie, purely out of watchability. I really hope Aaron Paul doesn't get typecasted as he was playing a role very similar to Jesse Pinkman.
He's a great actor and can do so much more than just that particular character. There was no intensity to the film, it didn't have me on the edge of my seat at all, when it really should have.
It could have been a really good thriller with a great cast, but the writing really lacked any imagination.
