Review of Triple 9 (2016) by Jono M — 11 Mar 2016

I'm admittedly a sucker for this type of movie; crooked cops, gangs doing gang stuff, lots of action. And I think in part due to that, I enjoyed Triple 9 more than I probably should have. It didn't hurt that it had a really good cast with a lot of people I like, such as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie and Casey Affleck.

Kate Winslet, who is obviously a very good actress, was straight up bad in this. There was a scene where her character was speaking on the phone to her husband in gaol. He spoke Russian, but she spoke English with a crappy Russian accent, and it took me out of the movie a bit.

The story was a bit all over the shop, but a few very cool action scenes did a good job of making up for it.
