This was a complete surprise for me and my spouse when we went to see it, during the summer of 99. After living through the angst ridden gay themed movies of the 70s (like the wonderful self loathing laden BOYS IN THE BAND) and the 80s (how many AIDS movies can they make?), finally, finally, finally, we had come into an era when a gay romantic comedy could be made; and they were being made.

Among them was this delightful, dirty, funny, flirtatious and extremely clever little Indie set in New York (my favourite city) in the summer (my favourite time to be in the city) with a cast of beautiful and beautifully interesting actors.

I can find fault with absolutely nothing about this movie.

And to begin listing what I love about it would become a laundry list. I will say, though, that the boys are charming and endearing, Tori is a comic diva and I especially love Lorri Bagley in a brilliant Marilyn Monroe inspired performance, a near cameo from a yet unknown Missi Pyle and an actress named Debi Trouche who plays a character with no lines who has the most amazing facial expressions during the diner scene.

Of course, for me, the big stars of the movie are the story and the city.

Absolute heaven.
