Review of Trespass (2011) by Ryan L — 26 Sep 2011
I've been waiting all month for this movie since seeing the trailer back in August. After standing in line weathering a 100 degree fever, and generally feeling unpleasant, "this movie better be good" I thought. "Trespass" will forever remain in my heart, well worth the wait.
From the start the film is engrossing. Nic Cage is brilliant as Kyle Johnson, a caring father with a hidden secret, who at the core only desires to protect his family at all costs. The film starts off with a bang and moves as such with suspense at every turn. Every minute is carefully calculated. Beat by beat as the masked men howl at a fetal Cage, the action grows more thrilling and intense with each turn. Schumacher is in top form as he catalyzes such raw emotion from his cast, with Nicole Kidman and Nicolas Cage as the crown jewels.
This movie is simply incredible. It breathes with emotion as a father desperately tries to stave off interlopers while desperately trying to protect his family. In a modern America where complete security and comfort remain threatened and elusive, "Trespass" reminds us that although these problems may forever be present, it won't be the highly advanced security systems, weapons, gates or guards that protect us from evil, but stability and warmth of family. And that my friends, is worth a week of cold medicine and congestion every time.
