Review of Tremors II: Aftershocks (1996) by Jesse B — 08 Sep 2014
As far as straight-to-video sequels go, this is actually not bad at all. Burt and Earl are reunited and play their roles enthusiastically (sadly Kevin Bacon's absence is felt) and the producer and director are still on the production team.
The tone remains light and energetic, with some decent humour and the special effects are more than capable, even the CGI, which is acceptable by mid-90s standards. My biggest issue with the film is that the iconic graboids are (literally) replaced halfway through the film with new creatures called shriekers, which while somewhat interesting, remove the "subterranean" theme that made the first movie so distinctive.
As Burt himself says: "We're supposed to be up against graboids!" It's far from the minor classic the original was but more than worth watching.
