Review of Tremors (1990) by Shero R — 24 Apr 2011
Outstanding, marvelously-mirthful monster movie, a throwback to the Giant Critter films of yore, coupling humor and horror into a fun and satisfying combo. The residents of Perfection, a tiny ex-mining town in Nevada are attacked by enormous, slobberingly-carnivorous, multi-mandibled, subterranean worms (Dubbed "Graboids"), and must band together to fend them off.
The cast here is wonderful: Kevin Bacon & Fred Ward as two layabout handymen, crusty store-owner Victor Wong, single mother Charlotte Stewart, mellow-Mexican Tony Genaro, cute and plucky geologist Finn Carter, and "Family Ties"' Michael Gross and Country music chanteuse Reba McEntire as an armed-to-the-teeth survivalist couple who damned-near steal the show.
With lots of action-packed set-pieces, suitably-hysterical acting, and super special effects that will satisfy any horror/action film fan. Followed by several watchable, but sub-par sequels.
