Review of Trees Lounge (1996) by Dan S — 02 Oct 2007
Steve Buscemi writes and directs (although you wouldn't no it since there's not a single mention of this in the credits) this wonderful tale of loneliness and loss. Buscemi plays a drunk, out-of-work mechanic, spending his days sipping Buds with the down-and-out locals in the town bar Trees Lounge.
Buscemi shows maturity behind the camera but this is definitely about the characters and the script. Buscemi's performance is excellent, and the film features a whole heap of well-known names (inc.
a cameo from Samuel L. Jackson), as he investigates those moments in life when everything seems to have gone wrong. It's cynical, bleak, but bittersweet. A very good movie.
