Review of Trees Lounge (1996) by Scott M — 13 Apr 2011
This is probably the best film about "functional" alcoholism that I have ever seen. No character in the film is a violent idiot, no one is an irrational zealot. Just a bunch of people who are slowly messing up their lives with alcohol, and can still rationalize why its happening.
As a functioning alcoholic and someone who watches other functioning alcoholics run through their lives, this is a perfect character study. Congratulations, Steve Buscemi. You made the film that no one else has had the heart, soul, or courage to make.
Brilliant.
