Review of Treasure Planet (2002) by Jackson W — 30 Sep 2013

The first thing I'll say about Treasure Planet is that the visuals are spectacular, stylistically some of Disney's best. The colors blend so well and you just want to look at them over and over again.

But does the rest of the film hold up as well? Well......I'll be honest, it's all one big plot hole that's never figured out. We have Jim Hawkins living on the planet of Montressor where they are the only two humans in that society.

How did they wind up there? Why did the parents get divorced, as the movie was telling me to care about? What type of things does the character have to go through besides everyone hating him in the beginning than coming to terms with him in the end? I hate movies that do that.

This production is an hour and a half long, I don't expect to have these questions afterward. Otherwise, I do like the characters. Their designs are cool and they are a lot of fun. I like little Morph, who is essentially a pat of pink goo that can morph into anything fitting the situsation, the doctor and the captain (though did they really have to hook up in the end?), the rock sailor guy that dies in the black hole, and a few other funny side players.

Overall, this film is just okay.
