Review of TransSiberian (2008) by Russell C — 20 Mar 2009
This movie doesn't re-invent the wheel, it's a just a solid, well thought-out Hitchcock-esque thriller. Brad Anderson does a great job of letting the film build up some steam by introducing the characters and relationships naturally.
Once the tension ratchets up, you're fully invested in the story and characters, so the moody suspense becomes very effective. Brad Anderson is really good at building up dread and suspense (see his other films which are equally good, but very different: The Machinist and Session 9).
I think this guy is an extremely under-rated filmmaker, and I'm surprised he hasn't "hit it big" yet. I think he's the next Danny Boyle. You heard it here first.
