Review of Transporter 2 (2005) by Simon W — 27 Jun 2009
Although I feel like I am being too harsh with 2 stars, it has to be said that, when stood beside it, this has to loose some stars when compared to the original.
Stratham is still super cool, but the film has noticeably lost some key elements which made the original great. The change of director leaves a noticeable drop in quality of the hand to hand action sequences. Even the best, involving Stratham armed with a fire hose, looses out to bad camera direction. There is also a huge move towards CG, which wasn't in the original, that leaves you desperately trying to switch off your sense of reality in order to have a hope of enjoying them.
The sound track, perhaps influenced by the change of location from Europe to Miami, also leaves the film with a serious edge which it just can't live up to, and the inclusion of attempts at serious emotional interaction between Stratham's superman, a child and his overwrought mother are laboured at best.
