The first Transformers is by far the best of the series. Although it have the Michael Bay tropes that I usually hate, it is entertaining for what it was.

Long ago, on the planet of Cybertron, a massive, powerful alien race divided into two factions, the noble Autobots, and the devious Decepticons. They fought for the sole access to a talisman known as the Allspark, a cube with the capacity to grant infinite power, and eventually the Autobots smuggled it off the planet's surface, hiding it in an unknown location on Earth. Now, hundreds of years later, the Deceptacons have come looking for it, and if the Autobots don't find it first, the Earth will be enslaved or destroyed by the evil aliens' use of its massive power. The Autobots don't know where the cube was hidden, but the information may be stored in the most unlikely of sources, as a gangly young Earthling named Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) who's just picked up his first car, has a strange connection to the Allspark's history, making him the unlikely ally of these enormous creatures, as they fight for humankind's survival and the chance to return home.

First of the action, although I couldn't see what was going on at times, it is fairly entertaining. Not only that, the special effects in this first installment are amazing. Plus, Bay always makes some great special effects if when his movies are bad or mediocre.

Now the negatives: first, the characters are very unconvincing especially Megan Fox. She is basically there to be the hot chick (oop I mean the love interest). Shia LaBeouf, well what he does is scream which is very annoying. And the rest of cast isn't much better. And the acting at times is pretty bad.

Second, the most of the humor does not work at all. Most of the humor contains a robot peeing on John Turturro's character, racial, and sexual humor and most of it does not work. They could have work if this movie have a better scriptwriter.

And lastly, although the action was fairly fun, the editing was pretty bad in the film. I couldn't tell what was going on, who was hitting who, or who going where.

Well, you can't expect Transformers to win any Oscars but you can expect to have a lot of fun watching it. Although it has the tropes of Bay that I hate and the other problems that I have, the action is fun and the effects are just great. I usually don't recommend movies like Transformers but it is one of those films that I prefer you to rent before you buy. So yea, please rent this movies before you buy it.
