Some criticisms are worthy, but collectively not so. Yes, it could have been better scripted, better roles for supporting characters, but as a theme goes it is satisfying. The central message is solid and of itself thought provoking, somewhat timely and edgy. It's the secondary elements that have the most flaws and that's the ultimate detractor. Unfortunately but not worthy of the bad press and reviews.
The first half is where most of the criticism is felt and I will admit wanting to abandon the movie. Example: At one point Morgan Freeman's narration becomes comical, and two people assemble a fully networked data center, complete with solder repair stations. For me, both are taboo.
However I enjoy the body of work by all the lead actors and kept the remote at bay. The second half is somewhat redemptive; if you stick with it and just let go of the shortcomings that can easily bog down the story.
Fans of SciFi should give it a chance. Worthy of PPV.
