Review of Trainwreck (2015) by Christopher P — 18 Nov 2015
Formulaic rom-com with the genders reversed. Sounds like a bad thing but it's an important distinction because the men in these films promiscuous and irresponsible behavior is made light of, there's no reason a woman's shouldn't be.
While Amy changing by getting into a monogamous relationship may seem like a cop-out, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Re-reverse the genders and u get the exact same movie. Rom-com man whores are also expected to change in these films.
You don't reinvent the wheel completely because the formula exists for a reason. The protagonist needs to have an arc of change from the beginning to end, regardless of gender. U want complete originality? Have a movie where a woman starts out as meg Ryan or Katherine Heigle and ends up as Amy Schumer.
