Review of Trainwreck (2015) by Ian H — 09 Dec 2015
There's a lot to like here and some hilarious stuff, but the rhythm is so awful it makes it very hard to connect to the story or the characters. This is par for the course for Judd Apatow's films, which are cautionary tales of what happens when you don't believe in deleted scenes (insanely, the DVD has a couple of deleted scenes, so why cut those and leave in the one where LeBron James holds an intervention for Bill Hader's character that inexplicably involves Matthew Brodereck? Right before a really sweet and moving scene between Amy and her sister? Ack).
Somebody, for the love of god, get this man an editor. That aside, this is Amy Schumer's movie and she stocks it with a murderer's row of funny people, draws funny out of LeBron James and John Cena, and even though I was constantly baffled by the clunkiness of the picture I still laughed my damn ass off.
