Review of Training Day (2001) by Brendan C — 01 Feb 2013
This is a very interesting cop film, and an unusual one too. This film is very original, because it's about a brutal cop tricking his partner into letting him get away with all of these illegal things. This film was a little slow, but was intense throughout. It was very brutal, and dark.
It all happened in less then one day, which is why this is called Training Day. It all took place in the ghettos of L.A., and had nothing but gangsters, and criminals. It had a lot of violence, and brutality. It was intense throughout, and it was definitely a film that will give you a massive adrenaline rush. Especially during the last half hour. So brutal, and intense.
Denzel Washington really stunned me with his performance, because he was so brutal, evil, and you just hate him so much. His entire plan to get all of the money, and to blackmail Jake was so evil, but intense. At first I thought that the movie was ok at the beginning, then it slowly got better, and the 2nd half of the film was so intense.
Ethan Hawke played the only person in the movie that wasn't a bad guy, but he just got manipulated by Denzel Washington, so he could be blackmailed into doing whatever he was told to do. He played a very intense role in this, that along with the terrific performance of Denzel Washington kept you on the edge of your seat the whole time.
In the end everything happens the way you wanted it too. You don't feel happy untl the end, because of how dark, and brutal this film is. But overall it's a really good movie.
