Review of Training Day (2001) by Lachlan D — 13 Mar 2015
Training day could have benefited greatly from a more realistic plot, the third act I'm referring to in particular. This aside it remains a great film about the battle of ethical principles over the temptation of corruption.
Anton Fuqua's direction is well suited to the substance of the story and in addition the original score is perfectly fitting to the underlying emotions and atmosphere of the film without ever sacrificing it's creativity.
The film provides an interesting contrast between the two broad ranges of acting. Denzel' Oscar winning performance is a testimony to his skill at playing flashy characters whilst Ethan Hawke nails the subtle and reserved personality, allowing the audience access into the thoughts and emotions of officer Jake Hoyt.
