Review of Train to Busan (2016) by Laura E — 27 Jun 2018
Overall this was an ok zombie movie. The opening scene was really cool and ominous and it kind of went downhill from there. The "moral of the story" was just a little too obvious for me - the idea that putting others before yourself will bring you good fortune, meanwhile being selfish and throwing others under the bus will come back to bite you.
Personally I wish this move had have been a little darker and not quite as wholesome (zombie movies aren't really meant to be wholesome). I did really like the idea that the pandemic was being covered up as a series of violent riots.
The best scene from the movie (besides the opening credits) in my opinion is when the train stops in a completely deserted terminal (when they were supposed to be met by a military escort) only to find that the entire military were now zombies.
This movie had a lot of lucky/convenient moments that would probably not happen in real life, such as 3 ppl fighting through a packed train compartment of zombies and all 3 getting through without a scratch.
However, it made up for these scenes with some truly creepy ones, such as the ending sequence (which I am not going to reveal in this review).
