Review of Train to Busan (2016) by Colin J — 26 Jun 2017
Train to Busan has plenty of everything a quintessential zombie movie needs: interesting characters, zombie terror, intense action, political commentary and problem solving. Yes, problem solving is essential to a zombie movie. As a filmmaker, it's important to give your zombies their own set of rules. With these it's just pure fun watching the characters figure out exactly how they can exploit their undead foes' weaknesses.
That being said, I feel like these zombies behaved similarly to those in World War Z. However, I didn't find this to be a weakness but rather it gave me the sense that this movie was more of what World War Z should have been.
It's not the most terrifying, dramatic, or action-packed zombie movie out there, but it is probably the one to most effectively synthesize all those different elements into one excellent zombie flick.
