Review of Train to Busan (2016) by Jamie J — 09 Mar 2017
If zombie movies needed a shot in the arm (and I'm not quite sure they do.) Then there are far more likely sources than Korea, and yet here we have Train To Busan, possibly the best 'infected' film since 28 Days Later, and certainly one of the finest horror efforts in years, even with cheesy fist fights, and eye watering melodrama.
Train to Busan manages to cram a novel concept into an overcrowded genre populated by films that scream "me too!" full of heart, interesting and claustrophobic set pieces and damn good acting, despite the language barrier no doubt throwing some viewers off.
Ok it has its ridiculous moments, some occasionally wonky CGI, which mercifully is used sparingly, in a style reminiscent of World War Z, and main characters still follow the trope of just being plain stupid and nonsensical, but that is all part of the fun right?
It is really interesting to see another cultures take on a well worn genre, and in the case of Train to busan, bloody brilliant it is too.
