Review of Towelhead (2008) by Trey I — 24 Dec 2008
Alan Ball is a strange man. This is not a shock. This is the man who wrote American Beauty, a movie that was entirely about how utterly disturbing the suburbs could be. Here, he layers racism, rape, and his oddly constant topic of teenage sexuality into a dark comedy that mortifies at first, but uses any frankness it has to ultimately make the final act all the more satisfying.
It's the type of movie where the Hollywood ending makes perfect sense, and great acting makes all of it seem pretty genuine.
