Review of Towelhead (2008) by Dawn S — 05 May 2009
This is a heavy film to watch and process. I rented this based on the fact Alan Ball (writer of, "American Beauty" and creator of, "Six Feet Under") wrote and directed it and Aaron Eckhart rocks.
I can't say I enjoyed it as far as entertainment goes, though it's not a film to entertain. It's about creating opportunities for further dialogue and conversation about the human condition, racism, and sexuality.
It was a well executed project as far as look and acting goes. Everyone did a fantastic job, though I believe the best performances came from two of the less-prominent characters (played by Matt Letscher and Toni Collette).
If you want something outside the typical "coming of age" story then check this film out. You'll never look at Aaron Eckhart the same again, though it's proof of his brilliant performance ability.
