Review of Towelhead (2008) by Murugan G — 07 Jan 2010
This movie was actually given to me by a friend who said it disgusted them, never wanted to see it again, and they wanted it off their hands. Well not to be blunt, but I am always trying to find a movie that shocks me.
So I watched the film with the detail in mind, "disgusting." I thought it was okay, kind of slow. It did show sexual abuse and sexual content many of which who find useless, as well as disgusting.
But while a scene ( or a few of them) have that disgusting, pit of your stomach feeling to it... thats, at least what I believe, the director is trying to get through. Rape is not pretty, it not suppose to make you feel comfortable.
It is suppose to make you feel sick, weird, twisted, etc. And this movie I think portrays Jasira's confusion in all her aspects of life and her body. This movie is somewhat unsettling and uncomfortable but depending on who your audience is you can either support or oppose it.
